FLC Temporary Relocation

Due to a burst pipe in a room above the Library there was extensive water damage to the room.  Therefore it has been closed until repairs have been made and the room is safe to use again.  All the books and resources have been placed into storage while the work is carried out.

Until further notice G27 and G28 are being used at break, lunch and after school for students to complete their work.  There are computers with a printer available.  There are also a selection of text books to support students in their studies.

Sadly there are not any reading books available for students to borrow.  Please speak with the librarian who will talk through other options and how to access Croydon or Sutton public libraries.

I would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding during this temporary change.

Check back here for updates on the re opening of the room.

Year 10 - Work Experience

The Search For a Placement Begins Now

What is it? It's your opportunity to spend a period of time outside the classroom, learning about a particular job or area of work.

When is it? - 2 weeks beginning Monday 2nd July until Friday 13th July 2018.

Why do it? It can help you decide on your options for after year 11 and beyond.  It will give you the chance to develop and show evidence of vital skills such as self-confidence, communication, independence and a variety of others depending on what kind of placement you do.

How to find a placement?  Family are often a good source for finding a placement, think what your parents/guardians do? How about brothers/sisters or aunts/uncles.
Do you already know where you may like to work?
If you know the type of job, check on yell.com for companies that are near you.

What do I Need? An up to date CV, covering letter and a school work experience form.  This form will be given to you with a letter for your parents. New forms can be collected from the FLC.

Check out the following websites. They may help you decide on the type of work experience you want to do. (click on the pictures to go to the websites)

Tips
  • Make a list of 10 places
  • Call / visit and ASK e.g. "hello, I'm enquiring about the possibility of organising a work experience placement from the 2nd of July" They will tell you what to do next.
  • Its very competitive so its important to make the right impression.
  • Try to find the name of a contact to address your letter/email/call to.  This will show you have done some research.
  • You are finding your own work experience placement.  It will make it harder if you try to find a placement with a friend.

Good luck with your search.
If you have any questions visit the FLC and ask.
